Cupping
What is cupping?
Cupping is a manual therapy technique that can be utilized in Physical Therapy, Chiropractic and Acupuncture practice. It is a local suction that is created with either heated cups or suction cups. Cupping pulls an area of skin into the suction which then decompresses muscles and connective tissue. It also promotes blood flow to the area being worked on, enhancing circulation which assists in your body’s own healing.
Cupping can be uncomfortable and can cause bruising, swelling and may also leave round/circular purple marks/bruises on the skin. These bruises typically fade after a few days to week.
