I have been helping fellow athletes achieve their goals and vastly improve their racing performance for several years. My tailored approach to each athlete’s goals and life situation draws from my vast endurance training background as a competitive cyclist, mountaineer, and elite level marathoner. As a father of two young children with a full time job as a civil engineer (and at times a part-time job as an adjunct faculty),  I understand the challenges of balancing a busy life with training hard to improve your personal records. I’d be delighted to help you achieve your goals with the same passion I’ve had for achieving my own, while maintaining that balance we all need on a regular basis.

I am a life-long athlete who’s been passionate about endurance sports since my teens.  My sports career began as a competitive road cyclist in my native Spain at fifteen years old. During that period, I competed in many racing events all over Spain and Europe.  In 1999, I won my home state championship and placed top 10 in many multi-stage events.  I transitioned to road running and racing in my late twenties when I moved to Boston. I immediately engaged with the vibrant running community in the Boston area and began training for many of the area’s road races. Soon, however, the Boston Marathon, the ultimate marathon event, began to call and I ran my first Boston in 2007.  My transition from competitive cycling to competitive running was successful because of a methodical approach to training, which allowed me to tap into my base aerobic fitness while rapidly adapting muscles to a new type of effort.  This training approach quickly resulted in successful results. My best marathon results are highlighted below:

Philadelphia International Marathon:
2h21min54sec in 2011 for 5th place,
2h23min36sec in 2010 for 3th place,
2h27min33sec for 10th place in 2015.

Boston Marathon:
2h25min19sec in 2010 for 37th place,
2h26in30sec for 50th place in 2013,
2h26min36sec in 2007 for 35th place,
2h27min13sec in 2009 for 36th place,
2h27in33sec for 37th place in 2008,
2h29min42sec for 21 place in 2012.

Cape Cod Marathon:
2h30min18sec for 3rd place in 2006

Other persona records include:
5K: 14min 49sec
10K: 31min 49sec
Half Marathon: 1h 08min 24sec

Testimonials

"Coach David has been amazing - in just a few months, I have become a stronger, faster runner. I had been marathoning for 10 years and my PR last year was ‪a 3:20 - my goal for this year's Chicago marathon was to get sub- 3 hours. I knew I couldn't do this without a coach so reached out to some runner friends who recommended I email David. As soon as we met and talked about goals, I knew working with him would be perfect. Not only are his weekly emails with runs and workouts thorough, easy to understand, and manageable with my schedule, they have been EFFECTIVE. Just one month into working with David I PR'd a 10k at 39 minutes! In addition to his workouts, his follow up is thoughtful and timely. I feel comfortable telling him the good, the bad, the ugly of every run and workout and know that he will tailor workouts for me based on how I'm feeling. I highly recommend David and can't wait to see my time in Chicago this year!"  --Kelly Whittaker

"David Bedoya has trained me for 3 marathons. We easily work easily well together because of his clear communication and supportive/positive attitude. I wouldn’t choose any other coach! David takes the time to learn and understand my running goals. His coaching is influenced by his diligent work ethic, his own-self study, and running experiences. Our coach/trainee relationship is founded on honesty, transparency, and reciprocity. Together we outline my ultimate, yet realistic running goal. Coach devises the training program with precise details like time, pace, exertion measurements, HR zone, and/or miles. The entire plan from training day #1 to marathon race day is mapped out and given to me in its entirety. David welcomes questions and wants to know about personal, specific training day challenges. He intently listens, assesses, and creates training modifications so that I can continue in the healthiest body and mindset, while staying on course towards my goal.

David has been a friend for 10yrs. I have seen him race 5 Boston Marathons. I now know him better through the experience as my coach! Who he is as a runner reflects his character out in the world: committed, intelligent, determined, impeccable, imperfect, trustworthy, and optimist!" -- Jen Brock

My cumulative experiences as a competitive runner, coach, and cardiovascular physiologist, along with my educational background in both Exercise Science and Biomedical Science, gives me a unique and holistic perspective on endurance training. I develop science-based training, adjusted to account for the runner's individual needs. I have a personal investment in every athlete I coach and enjoy the process of helping others achieve and exceed their goals.  Just as important as maintaining progress toward your goal, I strive to keep you motivated and keep things fun!

I began running competitively in high school and continued to run in college at SUNY Cortland where I studied Exercise Science. At Cortland I was a 5x NCAA National Championship qualifier, including two Top-10 finishes and 3rd place finish, earning All-American honors in the 3000m Steeplechase.  After graduating from Cortland, I went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Biomedical Science and coach XC and Track and Field at Rowan University.  At Rowan, I coached many National Championship qualifiers and future NCAA All-Americans.  After completing my Master’s degree, I moved to Boston to run competitively for the Heartbreakers and pursue a career in Cardiovascular Physiology. I continue to coach runners of all levels training for the mile up to the marathon.

Testimonials

“Coach Jarred began coaching me in college at Rowan University. With his assistance to our team, we qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship and saw a number of teammates become national level contenders in the steeplechase.  After moving to Boston, Jarred has helped me transition into post-collegiate running. The results: after a winter of hard work under his direction, I cruised to a 1:06:39, far exceeding my goal of 70 minutes. After my race, I called him in disbelief. I got a classic, “Told you’d crush it” and a chuckle.  Jarred’s coaching style is a result of his schooling in physiology and responsiveness to his athletes’ tendencies. I appreciate his wholesome approach to me as an athlete and a person. Although his plans come from education and results, he responds constructively to my fatigue level and concerns.  In my experience, Jarred makes my goals his project and considers every approach through informed research. I am very excited about my future as a runner and am confident with Jarred as my coach. If you have ambition, Jarred will match that and put you in a position to succeed on race day.”
